Mastodon Brent Hinds was high on what?

There has been some noise around a some words that allegedly has said by Brent Hinds.
Noise about something like this:
"I’ve been trying to get Mastodon to not be such a heavy metal band, because I fucking hate heavy metal, and I don’t want to be in a heavy metal band."

As a Mastodon fan, an by that I mean a heavy metal fan, I'm really disappointed with this non-sense.
What can we really expect from Mastodon right now?
What will be their next album like? There will be a trillion fans to say no matter where the next album sits on, it will never be metal anymore. There will be some to say that it is metal. What will Brent Hinds say.

Honestly I'm really confused by this. Hope that this mess will no be the end of Mastodon.
Yes Brent, sometimes your shit lands on your own head.
